I helped my hubby celebrate the grand opening of his new beautiful office the night before last and what fun it was! I am so proud of him and excited to see him on this new venture.
Now back to the office.......an office that oozes a serious 'Star Trekky' kinda vibe, it is very cool. When I was there a few days ago I realized that they have basics stocked in their kitchen for eating and drinking like water glasses that can double for beer Friday glasses, but no wine glasses! So, I hit up my local Dollar store and snagged 6 stemless wine glasses and got busy customizing them. Phew, those stencils were a bit challenging to get exactly right, as in it took me a few tries.
I decided to use their B + H logo on 3 of the glasses and the Star Trek insignia for the other 3 and they turned out pretty good and super affordable too.
Kinda hard to photograph these babies, but that is what I like about them...the subtle etching.
Seriously, making these stencils was the hardest part, I found an image online for the insignia and used letter stickers and a basic circle shape for the others. Then, using a cutting mat and craft knife I got to work.
While I was at the Dollar store I came across some window clings that I thought would be perfect to use as my stencils, so I traced my stencil onto the window cling and cut them out to adhere to the wine glasses.
Well, as good an idea that I thought that was, the cling didn't stick enough to prevent leakage, live and learn right??
So, I had to hunt down some clear contact paper and that worked much better! Make sure you really seal the edges down, so the cream doesn't seep under!
The etch cream is nasty stuff and advises the use of rubber gloves. I like to live dangerously, so I didn't wear gloves, but you might want to...seriously.
The cream needs to be applied pretty thick to avoid brush marks in the final result. Let sit for at least 30 minute to get the best look. You can always rinse and re-apply if need be.
I packaged them up in an orange bin which is the main color used in the new office space.
All in all not too hard if you have a pre-made stencil or are really steady with your hand!
Worth the effort? Sure.
I think they will enjoy drinking from their custom made wine glasses!
